My Profile

When life gets hard to deal with, it is good to have someone to talk to; Someone with the expertise, professionalism, and compassion to listen, ask the right questions to create clarity and help us find the solution or at least see the light at the end of the tunnel. When dealing with mental and emotional pain, someone with the proper training and experience could be the right person to turn to. I utilize over 10 years of experience in therapy practice to the full benefit of my clients dealing with grief, depression, and anxiety, including those dealing with chronic illnesses such as cancer, as well as youth and parents’ issues. My training in trauma-informed therapies transformed my perspective and gave me a new understanding of the suffering and growth we go through in our day-to-day lives and events of the past. My clients usually describe me as non-judgemental, “easy-to-talk-to,” and result-oriented, and those are the feelings I would like to transfer when we talk.

Hi, my name is Samir and I am a licensed psychotherapist with a master’s degree in counseling psychology. I have been working in the mental health field for 5 years and have experience helping individuals of all ages navigate various challenges, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and trauma.

As a clinician, I mainly draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness-based modalities to provide clients with a greater understanding of themselves and their emotions. I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and change, build resilience, and develop the necessary skills to cope with life’s challenges. Additionally, as a former university athlete, I understand the challenges that athletes face as they transition in and out of sports and the reshaping of identity that comes with this process.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I am passionate about research. I have published several peer-reviewed articles on topics such as mental health, loneliness, self-care, and burnout. I currently work as an independent academic researcher for an academic journal, and I infuse contemporary research into my role as a therapist by allowing it to continuously inform best-practice strategies.

Hello! I am so happy you are here. My name is Shari. Thank’s for connecting.

My Bio: I almost walked away from a 15 year Yoga career, or more so as a business owner of a thriving Registered Yoga Teacher Training School- but here I am. Well the same as most people over the past 2 years or so in LIMBO due to– dare I say the word (covid)…

Here we are- I still see me, and I really see you.

I see people lost, I see suffering more than ever, I see frazzled nervous systems including my own. I see a lot of us just don’t know what to do with all of this, and how to bring peace or any form of balance back in our life.

I see people not understanding why we fly off the handle a drop of a hat or pull back and disassociate with family or loved one. Its NOT OUR FAULT.

At the right time and the right place, my very dear friend (she knows who she is) said to me “ Hey Shar,

I know you are “retired” and not doing yoga anymore but do you want to teach yoga ?  For people who have experienced Stress or Trauma…(😊) Ya I know, that’s all of us! ( she knew what she was doing) she knows that I need to share as much as the world needed my help.

Here I am. Feeling and knowing- it is my duty (dharma) to share this gift and the healing power of Yoga through a Trauma Informed lens with all that need it. At the very least to all that I can compassionately and authentically reach in my very small area of the world.

I am a Survivor.

I have recently moved from back home to Ontario from Fort McMurray AB. Some of you may of heard of the Wild Fires of Fort McMurray in 2016 or the Ice River Break up Floods just to name a few experiences. So many of us have experience Traumatic Events and don’t really think of ourselves as Trauma Survivors. Bad Car Accidents, Disconnect from Family, Childhood Physical/Emotional Abuse, Childhood Neglect Abandonment, Sexual Assault, Abusive Adult Relationships.

Alcohol and Drug coping mechanisms ( prescription or non), Overeating, Chronic Sleep Issues, to name of few. They can ad up.

So many of us have experienced trauma in our lives but never really realized we are living our lives with a totally different nervous system due to these events, either over a long period of time on one major event.

Its not our Fault.

I can’t stop learning on this subject “TRAUMA “( there is so many great resources out there) because everywhere I look- I see suffering.  I have been struggling rewrite this my “YOGA BIO” it has not updated since 2008. Things have changed- I am more aware of the things I have experienced- I have changed.

And that is OK.

All of my past students were a gift to me, the challenging ones included.  They are NOT they reason I stepped away from my Yoga Teacher Training School, but they were a blessing to me and they gave me the strength and drive to always do my very best, sometimes feeling that It was not enough-

 - I AM Enough! And here I am

Letting go of my ego- letting my business close- I am still here- I am still me. I do not lose my identity! I still have a light inside of me.  I can offer a peaceful and comfortable non-judgmental space of healing for you.

I am here to Here to Help You Find Balance.

How can I help?

Additionally, I have lived experience as a first responder and am passionate about addressing the unique challenges associated with fulfilling such roles. I am a Registered Psychotherapist who helps people who are struggling with feelings of guilt, shame, and depression. Many of these are common symptoms for people who struggle with mental health conditions. Understanding the barriers in a person’s life, and previous trauma, can help identify present day triggers and daily struggles. The goal of therapy would be to work collaboratively, using a psychotherapy framework, to identify the cause of the struggles and work towards understanding and reducing symptoms affecting your daily life.

The approach I use is trauma-focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), attachment based Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Compassion Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for complex trauma. EMDR is an effective form of trauma therapy that has been extensively researched to help people, who have experienced trauma, to resume the brain’s natural healing process.

A special interest of mine is faith-based counselling. I graduated from Wycliffe College with a Masters of Theological Studies in April 2023. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD in Psychology at Liberty University. Through my experience and education I can help people who are experiencing grief, anxiety, and depression by using their faith to help understand and build inner strength to face daily struggles. By combining psychotherapy to Christian beliefs, this can guide a struggling person to find a source of strength and hope during trying times.

My name is Brendan and I am a Registered Social Worker. I hold a Masters degree is Social Work from the University of Toronto. I provide virtual counselling to individuals living in Ontario.

Encountering issues, no matter the severity, is a normal and natural part of our lives. However, it is my belief that our unique life experiences require a personalized approach to help us reach our goals in the face of adversity. One size does not fit all. Sessions with me are experiential in nature, with a focus on developing present moment awareness of one’s inner and outer world. Every person possesses an expert knowledge of themselves. Through the cultivation of mindfulness and other skills, I aim to help individuals harness that self knowledge to identify where they are stuck and to find ways to engage in values-based living. I have 7+ years of experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds who are navigating life with anxiety, low mood, relationship issues, ongoing dilemmas, grief and/or chronic illness. I operate with a person-centered, anti-oppressive, trans-diagnostic, and trauma-informed lens. I mainly draw upon a modality called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT, which is pronounced like the word ‘act’). I also incorporate aspects of other mindfulness and compassion-based approaches, as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing.

My practice is concentrated around a client-centred approach, always bearing in mind the philosophy of ‘unconditional positive regard’ that should be afforded every person. Working together with my clients we will identify challenges, make goals and work towards recognizing and removing obstacles. My aspiration as a therapist is to create a safe environment in which work can be collaborative, address the impacts of trauma, stress, anxiety, depression and/or grief and make the changes necessary to live the healthy and fulfilling life that my clients want.

Some of my specialized training and experience includes CBT, Narrative Therapy, ACT, and Trauma Training. I have been trained for several years while working in the Centre for Abuse and Trauma Therapy in Kingston ON, with clients who have experienced child sexual trauma and abuse.

I had been in the Canadian Military Reserves for over 30 years as a Medical Assistant and Health Care Administrator and wanted to assist Soldiers with their Mental Health struggles so I earned my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2017 and my Masters in Social Work in 2021.

Training: Becks CBT essentials, Beck Depression, Becks Anxiety (almost complete), ACT workshop, Narrative therapy (from MACP Practicum placement).

Welcome. I am so glad you are here.

I am Krista Olson, Registered Social Worker, and proud member of the Psychotherapy for You team. I honor the courage and vulnerability it takes to ask for help and to truly look at ourselves. It is a privilege to hold safe, meaningful space and collaborate with clients in the often delicate process of self exploration, experiential healing, and growth. I would love the opportunity to join you on your journey.

I have always been fascinated by the “why” underlying human behavior and from a very young age felt a natural inclination to listen closely and understand people on a deep level. This instinct led me to complete my graduate Social Work education and expanded into my dream career of being a Psychotherapist firmly grounded in authenticity and intentional presence. From many years of human services work in a beloved First Nations community to decades of experience in the field of mental health and addictions, I am a forever learner and lover of all life adventures.

My clients describe me as authentic, safe, insightful, present, grounded, deeply intuitive, non judgmental, honest, open hearted and someone who “walks their talk”. That therapist whom you can journey through challenging experiences with and have a good laugh along the way.

I believe that each one of us can be fulfilled in our lives. Our individual healing journeys are unique and sacred to who we are. I take the time to get to know you, your values, your experiences, and your goals. I will meet you where you are and support you in taking meaningful action towards discovering your own path. I believe a well lived life embraces all the experiences we encounter on this life journey. If you are ready to explore what is getting in your way and figure out what to do next, it would be my honor to assist.

Outside of work, I love to be in nature, wa(o)ndering harmoniously with my sweet cocker spaniel at our cabin in the woods, reading, practicing yoga, swimming, sipping tea by the fire, gardening and deeply nourishing my relationships with self and loved ones.

Sex Couples Therapist Registered Psychotherapist (Q)

We all experience changes in our life that challenge our relationships. These changes can cause us to feel distant and disconnected from our partner leading to low sex-drive or libido, and poor communication, causing recurring and frequent disagreements. I want to support you to refuel your emotional and sexual intimacy, reignite your passion, strengthen your communication, and your overall connection.

I offer a space of non-judgment and seek to meet you with empathy, compassion, and curiosity. I hope to create a space that is safe for you to be vulnerable, to share and express your thoughts and feelings, for us to navigate and explore with the ultimate goal of meeting your therapeutic needs.

Experience: I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I started my educational pursuit at the University of Waterloo with a B.A in Social Development Studies. It was my passion to make a larger impact in the lives of others that drove me to pursue my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Through this experience, I have uncovered an interest and excitement in couples and sex therapy. I believe that the health and satisfaction of our relationships impact our lives in more ways than just the home. Through focusing on emotions, I strive to work with couples to refuel their relationships, work through interpersonal struggles with the use of emotion, and regain control of their own version of intimacy. Working from a trauma informed lens, I strive to also support individuals, adults, and teens, who may be experiencing discomfort, trauma, or dissatisfaction in their lives. I use a person-centered, collaborative approach in my sessions to truly get to know my clients and their needs prior to creating a treatment plan.

When seeking therapy, you deserve to be heard and supported. I seek to use an individualized approach to meet your needs with empathy and non-judgment.

Hi, I’m Michaela! I am a recent MSW graduate from the University of Windsor and had the pleasure of completing my last practicum with Psychotherapy for You Canada! I also hold an Honours Bachelor of Behavioural Psychology. I have spent the last four years working in acute inpatient psychiatric care for children and youth ages 5-17 and feel that I have a good grasp on some of the most pressing issues youth are currently facing. I believe every human being is unique, there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach, and each person deserves to seek counseling with a therapist who tailors their approach to what fits the client best. I am extremely passionate about helping people through some of life’s most stressful and challenging situations and developing useful skills to do so. I firmly believe that compassion and empathy are the cornerstones for developing positive working relationships with individuals. Additionally, I believe that therapy should not be an added stressor to one’s already busy life, rather a collaborative approach that is beneficial for each client. I can’t wait to connect and figure out how I can best support you! Some of my areas of interest/expertise include: - Anxiety - Emotion Regulation - Trauma - Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) - Stress & Burnout - Self-Care & Boundaries - Behavioural Concerns - Wellness
